Positioning and Engagement Strategy
Define where your chatbot appears and how it captures your visitors’ attention to maximize interactions without disrupting navigation.
Introduction
Integrating a chatbot should never compromise your site’s usability. It must never obscure an important button (like “Add to Cart”) or conflict with your cookie banner.
Additionally, a chatbot that’s too discreet risks being ignored. DoxyChat allows you to find the perfect balance between visibility and discretion through positioning and animation settings.
1. Choose the Location (Alignment)
By default, the widget displays in the bottom right corner of the screen, which is the web standard. However, you can modify this placement in the Appearance tab.
- Bottom - Right: The classic position expected by users.
- Bottom - Left: Useful if you already have a “Back to Top” button or another tool (WhatsApp, Calendly) located on the right.
2. Adjust the Margins (Precise Offset)
Sometimes, choosing “Right” or “Left” isn’t enough. Your site may have a thick footer, a cookie consent banner, or a bottom navigation bar on mobile.
You can set offset margins (in pixels) to move the bubble:
- Lateral Margin (X-Axis): To shift the bubble toward the center of the screen.
- Bottom Margin (Y-Axis): To raise the bubble.
- Common use case: If you have a 50px-high cookie banner, set the bottom margin to 70px so the chatbot “floats” above the banner without hiding it.
3. Engagement Strategy (Attracting Attention)
A visitor arriving on your site doesn’t always notice the small chat bubble. To increase usage rate, you can configure visual triggers.
Animation (Vibration)
You can make the bubble animate slightly (vibration or bounce) after a certain time.
- Delay: Define after how many seconds the animation triggers (e.g., 5 seconds). This gives the visitor time to discover the page before being prompted.
- Effect: Draws attention through peripheral movement without being intrusive.
Message Bubble (Proactive Pop-up)
Instead of waiting for the user to click to see the welcome message, you can display it automatically above the closed bubble.
- How it works: A tooltip containing your welcome message (e.g., “Need help choosing?”) appears above the avatar.
- Configuration:
- Always display: The message is visible upon loading.
- Display on hover: The message only appears when the mouse passes over the logo.
- Display after delay: The message “pops” after X seconds (recommended for a proactive effect).
Pro Tip: On mobile, favor a less intrusive approach (simple vibration) to avoid masking your site’s content on small screens.
